NOTES: I'm incredibly sorry this update is late! >.< Gomen ne, minna! To make up for that, I'm posting two chapters today! :) And also, if you've noticed, I've changed the title. 'Paper Roses' was just a working title after all. But since the new title is too long, the official label/tag to this would be 'Sapphire's Story'. One more thing, I've finally decided on a story banner!!! Rather late, I know but well, I had a hard time choosing which face I would like for Sapphire to have. Anyways, I know I'm boring you with all these stuff so off to the story we go~~
Chapter 11
“Hey, I noticed that you're a good
swimmer,” Tristan said to Sapphire. “Wanna have a swimming race with me?”
It was late afternoon and they were
currently sitting on the sand, resting from all the swimming they did earlier.
Em and the rest were playing beach volleyball not far from them. She wasn't
into volleyball so she didn't join them. Tristan said she would be lonely alone
so he came to talk to her.
“A race?” Sapphire said. “What do I
get if I win?”
“The winner can ask anything from
the loser. How's that?” Tristan replied.
“Sounds good. Deal!” Sapphire said
enthusiastically.
“Are you sure you can beat me?”
Tristan teased.
“You bet I will!” Sapphire laughed
then ran to the water. “Let's start this race!”
“Looks like those two are swimming
again,” Brad said.
The group stopped playing for a
while and watched Sapphire and Tristan.
“They're not tired of the water yet?
Real water babies.” Ken shook his head in amusement.
“Huh? What are they doing? Oh,
they're having a race!” Nat said.
“Nat's right! Let's go closer. I
wanna cheer for Sapphire!” Amanda said.
“They look good together, don't
they?” Em casually said to Bryce then left him to join their now cheering
friends.
Bryce frowned but didn't say
anything and just followed them.
After a few minutes, Sapphire and
Tristan were coming back to the shore.
Everyone was shocked when Tristan
held Sapphire's hand and intertwined their fingers and Sapphire didn't say
anything and just smiled indulgently at him.
“Sapphire and I wants to talk in
private so we'll leave you guys first, okay?” Tristan announced.
He and Sapphire left the group,
still holding hands.
“Do you think we should have
explained something to them? They look really stunned,” Sapphire said worriedly
when they were already far from the rest of their friends.
“Part of the prize I asked from you
was to not reveal this to anyone, remember?”
Flashback: A few
minutes earlier, before they started the race...
“You can't beat me,” Tristan
smugly said.
Sapphire laughed. “Confident aren't
we?”
“Yup. You better be prepared.”
“All right. What would you like as
your prize if ever you win?” Sapphire asked.
“Be my girlfriend until tonight,”
Tristan said.
“What?! Why?” Sapphire exclaimed,
perplexed. She didn't understand why Tristan would ask something like that from
her.
“Unfortunately my dear, I can't tell
you. Don't tell me you're backing out of the deal?” Tristan said.
“Of course not.” Sapphire said,
reluctantly then added more cheerfully, “I'll just have to beat you then.”
“Great. And by the way, you can't
tell anyone about this deal, okay?”
End of Flashback.
Sapphire sighed then shook her head
at Tristan's silly game. “Alright boyfriend. What do you want to do
now?”
“What do you want to do?”
Sapphire grinned and said, “You're
really getting into the role of a good boyfriend, huh?”
“Of course! I'm a really good
boyfriend, you know.” Tristan said, proudly.
Sapphire laughed. “Hmm, I can't
think of anything I'd like to do right now but I really need to buy some
souvenirs.”
“Shopping for souvenirs it is then,”
Tristan said.
They walked on and chatted while
once in a while looking at things that seemed interesting.
A few distances behind them, four
people were trying to be unnoticeable as they followed the two. They were
clearly failing based on the stares they got from the people but as intent they
were in their task, they didn't notice.
“I can't hear what they're saying!”
“Duh Nat. Of course, you can't hear
them. They're too many people and we're too far from them,” Ken said.
“Shut up you two!” Amanda snapped at
them then looked back at her brother who was walking behind them. “Hurry up!”
“Why did I have to come with you?”
Bryce said. For some reason, he was incredible annoyed and irritated.
“You came at your own free will,”
Ken said, pointedly.
“You wouldn't stop pestering me,”
Bryce retorted.
The three rolled their eyes.
“He's seriously in denial,” Nat
whispered to Ken and Amanda.
“You got that right.” Amanda agreed.
Unknown to the four, Tristan had
already noticed them.
“Don't look now but Ken, Nat, Amanda
and Bryce are following us,” Tristan said to Sapphire, amused.
“Huh?”
Sapphire had started to look back
but Tristan placed his arms around her shoulders to prevent her from turning.
“I told you, don't look. They don't know we've
noticed them.”
“Are you sure they're following us?
I mean, they could be shopping too, you know,” Sapphire said when she had
confirmed that the four were indeed a few distance behind them.
“Trust me Sapphire, shopping is far
from their minds right now.”
Bryce furrowed his eyebrows when he
saw Tristan place his arms around Sapphire's shoulders.
That playboy is at it again. But
it looks like Sapphire is enjoying the attention.
He was annoyed at that thought but
since he really had no right to interfere and he was just getting more
irritated by watching the two, he decided it was time to leave before he could
do something he really shouldn't do.
“I'm going back to the beach,” he said. “You guys
should stop following them too.”
“Why?!” His sister exclaimed.
“This is pointless. Those two are
adults and if they want to be together, we shouldn't bother them.”
Even he himself knew that his words
had a touch of bitterness in it. He ignored it.
“He's seriously not doing anything,”
Em said annoyed.
Amanda had just texted her what
happened while she and Brad weren't with them. Including the part where Bryce
left.
“Huh?” Brad stopped taking pictures
of the beach and glanced back to Em. “Who are you taking about?”
“Bryce.” Em looked at him like that
should be obvious.
“What happened exactly?” He asked
calmly, continuing what he was doing before – taking pictures with his trusty
DSLR.
“Amanda and the rest of the guys
followed Sapphire and Tristan but then Bryce suddenly told them to quit what
they were doing and then he left. Left, Brad! He left! Argh! That idiotic
cousin of mine is seriously giving me a headache!” Em said annoyed.
“Relax Em.” Brad said, amused. Then
he thought something. “But aren't you worried?”
“Of course I'm worried! Those two
are missing out on each other and they don't even realize it!” Em exclaimed.
“No, I mean with Tristan and
Sapphire. Tristan is afterall an ultimate playboy. He can charm girls off their
feet if he wants to. Sapphire wouldn't be immune to that, I think.”
“You're wrong. When a girl falls in
love, she'll never be 'charmed off her feet' by any other guy.”
A strange emotion passed through
Em's eyes when she said that but it was gone so fast that Brad wasn't sure if
he saw it correctly.
Em's pensive looked was replaced by
a smug one. “Besides, as you said, Tristan can charm girls if he wants
too. But you see, he sees Sapphire as an adorable little sister.”
“How can you be so confident of
that?” Brad asked, confused.
Em smirked. “Because this whole
thing, from the start of the trip until this jealousy plan are all Tristan and
Chris' idea.”
“What?!” Brad's mouth gaped open.
To be continued~
