A Rose, A Ring and A Promise: Chapter 12

Chapter 12

Em chuckled, seeing Brad's expression. “Turned out they were getting tired of dealing with Bryce's moodiness too and well, when I told them what Sapphire managed to do so far, they devised this whole plan with me.”

“Hey, the lovebirds left already?” Chris asked.

His twin was right behind him. Both we're smiling michievously, amusement clear in their eyes.

“Yeah,” Em grinned. It wasn't hard to guess that they were talking about Bryce and Sapphire.

“That girl sure tamed him, huh? I never saw Bryce act fierce at a girl but just now he was so harsh at Stacey, all because of Sapphire,” Tristan said in wonder.

“Yeah and I've never seen him so worried for someone who's not part of his family,” Chris agreed.

“She's gonna be part of the family soon,” Amanda, who happened to overhear their conversation, said.

“Amanda knows the plan?” Brad asked, surprised.

“Of course not. She left right after saying that,” Em said matter-of-fact.

“Oh okay. So where does the 'planning' fit in the story?” Brad asked, curious.

            “Well...”

“Does that mean she's Bryce's fiancee?” Chris asked.

Tristan shook his head. “She told me earlier when we were dancing that she's not Bryce's girlfriend.”

“So what makes her special?” Chris asked. “I mean, I know she's really cute, with a killer smile that could bring men to their knees and eyes that lures you to her but still, she's not Bryce's type, right? Bryce's usually with the supermodel type.”

Em shrugged. “She was able to make Bryce stay at home on a week-end. She was also able to make him laugh. Oh and he hugged her on his own free will. Also, you saw how protective he is of her. If those things don't show how special she is, then I don't know what does.”

“But they aren't together yet?” Chris asked, confused.

“Bryce is being stubborn and Sapphire is in denial stage.”

“Oh~” The twins said in unison. Em didn't miss the naughty glint on the twins' eyes.

“That wouldn't do, right? We can't just leave them as they are,” Tristan said with a grin.

“Yeah, would we let the chance to permanently cure Bryce's grumpiness pass? No freaking way!” Chris said, laughing. “Besides, where's the fun in that?”

“And then we started the plan.  The jealousy part was just a back-up plan though. We didn't think Bryce would be this hard to crack.” Em frowned. “But well, plan B came in handy.”

“So that's why Tristan came at the same time we're here. I thought it was a little suspicious.” Brad said, nodding.

“Yes, I called him and Chris. They were eager to execute plan B but I think the great deal of that is attributed to the fact that they'll be able to play around while they're here.” Em clicked her tongue at that.

Meanwhile, Tristan and Sapphire minus their 'stalkers', decided to go jetskiing.

“Wow, this is so much fun!” Sapphire yelled while Tristan maneuvered the jetski across the water. She was sitting behind him and had her arms tightly around his waist.

Tristan laughed and sped up some more.

Bryce, who unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on whose perspective you would see it) was along that area of the island, frowned when he saw the two from a distance.

“Why do I keep running into you?” he muttered.

He threw into the trash can his barely touched fruit shake with such force that the trash can shook.

He was about to leave but then he heard a loud, cheerful voice calling him. Even without turning, he knew who it was.

“Bryce, yuhoooo!” Sapphire excitedly called to Bryce who didn't seem to hear her.

Bryce finally turned and with a bored expression on his face, said, “What?”

Sapphire raised an eyebrow but was still smiling. “It's getting dark, why don't we all go night swimming?”

            “No, thanks. I'm tired.”

“You're tired already? But you didn't even do anything tiring! Come with us, please?” Sapphire looked at him pleadingly.

Bryce was very close to giving in. After all, he wasn't immuned to Sapphire's puppy eyes. In his opinion, no one was. But as he was about to say yes to her request, Tristan interrupted.

            “Let's go babe. Bryce's isn't interested.”

Bryce mood became darker as he heard the endearment Tristan used on Sapphire. They're  at that stage already?

So of course, with a temper like his, he said rather forcefully, “Yeah, I'm not interested.”

The dissappointment he saw in her eyes pierced his heart but he convinced himself it was just his imagination. After all, why would she need him when she already had Tristan?

And still, he convinced himself that he wasn't jealous.

He was almost able to do that.

            Almost.

Until he saw Sapphire laughing with Tristan later that night.

They were in a bar. Firedancers were performing on stage but Sapphire's attention wasn't on them at the moment. She was saying something in her animated way and Tristan placed her arm on her shoulder and drew her closer to him.

            It grated on his nerves.

He felt that burning hatred inside of him. He hated that Tristan was holding her, that he was next to her.

And then finally admitted it. Yes, he was jealous.

When Tristan tilted Sapphire's face up and brought his face closer to her, Bryce finally snapped.

            To hell with everything!

He stood up from their table – to the surprise of his companions – and walked towards Tristan and Sapphire.

He gave Tristan a glare that could freeze hell with its intensity and said, “She's mine,” before grabbing the shocked Sapphire's hand.

Then he walked away, Sapphire in tow.

“Bryce, stop pulling me! I'm a human, not a rag doll,” Sapphire complained.

Bryce halted. “I honestly didn't think you're that easy.”

“What? What are you talking about?” Sapphire was genuinely confused.

“Would you have honestly let him kiss you?” Bryce let out an exasperated sigh.

            “He's my– ”

But before Sapphire could answer, Bryce kissed her.

And she was lost. She forgot all the things she wanted to say, all the reasons why she shouldn't let this happen, all the questions.

But after they pulled apart and Sapphire managed to gather her wits together somehow, one question managed to get out of her mouth.

“Why did you do that, Bryce?”

Bryce could clearly see the uncertainty in Sapphires eyes. But he chose to ask her something instead of answering her question.

“Do you remember what you told me the day we watched the sunrise together?”

“What did I tell you?” Sapphire asked, confused with the change of topic.

“That beautiful moments should be shared with someone.”

“But you know Bryce, when you share moments with someone, it can be peaceful too. And when you look back, it's not only the beauty of what you've seen that makes the memory special but also the person you were with.”

            Bryce smiled with the memory.

Sapphire was taken aback. Bryce's smile had always held a tinge of sarcasm or a hint of sadness but this time is different. She could feel the sincerity in that smile and genuine happiness, and a bit of insecurity that she never would have thought would ever grace the confident man’s lips.

“Sapphire, I'm not sure if I'm the man you deserve but what I do know is that from now on I would like to share every moment, beautiful or not, with you. I would like to be that person who would make everyday special for you. Would you let me, Sapphire?”

Sapphire gasped. She didn't think Bryce thought of her that way, that she was special to him.

And it warmed her heart. “Yes.”

There were no words of love, no extravagant confessions or grand promises but they both knew in their hearts that they cherished each other and for now, that would be enough.

To be continued~

Note: Bryce finally made his choice! Actually, they both did. But if you think this story ends here then think again. Next week, it'll be a fluffy, 'in-love' kind of atmosphere for Sapphire and Bryce. So, I'll see you next week then!

A/N: Oh and I actually went to Boracay two weeks ago! Here's some of the pics!!!

This is one of the 'firedancers' I was talking about in this chapter :)
